S.E.E.D. For Today__Conversation
Scripture "When you talk, do not say harmful things, but say what people need_words that will help others become stronger." Ephesians 4:29 New Century Version
Paul is discussing the unwholesome talk which literally means rotten, putrid or filthy. This includes obscene language, but more so Paul is placing the emphasis on spreading conversations which run others down and delights in their weakness. Anyone that engages in conversation like this are dispensing poison into people's system a little at a time, the more they talk the more they dispense. To some people dispensing bad news or poison through speech have become a natural tendency to do so. Such talk should not be part of the believer's life. Paul says speak that which is helpful to others, conversation that they need to build them up or strengthen them. In others words bring news that people can use. Our words should be a vehicle and demonstration of the grace of God, constructive talk that build others up. "Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt," Colossians 4:6 salt preserves. Negative talk is like sulfur. Our talk should help maintain and elevate others, for "reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." Proverbs 12:18
Example Conversation the informal interchange of thoughts, information by spoken words. Communication between persons.
Exercise Read Ephesians 4:29-32 Journal and talk to God, If you know that you fall short in conversation, reflect on it , ask yourself this question would the Holy Spirit be able to attend my conversations with joy or grief? Remember that as a believer you house the Holy Spirit of God.
Devotion Lord I pray for wisdom. I pray that my conversations are such that will not cause you any grief. I pray that what I say is not harmful, but helpful. I pray that my conversations will be words that others can use, that will help others become stronger. I pray today that I do not fall short, that my heart is pure for what we say comes from the heart. I pray that I will not dispense poison from my mouth, but use words that will encourage, help people think, strengthen, push them, empower them to live for righteousness. I pray that I will not be the one to let others bring me bad news that harm others behind their back. I pray that I don't destroy myself with my own words in Jesus Name Amen.
Amen!!!
