S.E.E.D. For Today___Holy Nation
Scripture "But You Are A Chosen People, Royal Priest, A Holy Nation, A People For God's Own Possession." I Peter 2:9 New Century Version
Peter writes applying the identification to the people of the new covenant in Christ. The identity of Christian believers are associated with their role as royal priest and a holy nation. In the Old Testament the priesthood involved being sanctified and set apart from the people at large for their ministry in obedience and holiness unto God. In the New Covenant that God has with us today that we have received through His Son Jesus Christ, we now live with this inescapable identity. Royal modifies to us that God is King and that as subjects of this Kingdom we must think of ourselves as holy as it relates to the world, set apart to practice freedom from adulteration and contamination, and for the purpose of God. Royal and Holy describes the nature of our relationship to the Father, we are a people chosen for God, "once we had no identity as a people" but now we are His own special possession.
Example A Kingdom is always synonymous with a nation. Today the Universal Church is the nation. We live in conjunction carrying out the constitution of the Kingdom of God, setting ourselves apart under the governing of His word.
Exercise Read I Peter 2:1-10 Journal and Talk to God; Today as the church many neglect teaching the emphasis on the inescapable identity of every believer. In a world full of choices it's hard to set ourselves apart from what seems so normal to our natural man. But God said to be Holy for He is Holy created in His image and brought with Christ blood we must understand who we are. We must pray for the restoration of holiness as the ruling interest of our faith.
Devotion Lord my prayer for today is help! Help me not to escape the reality of who I am in Christ. I pray that I will live in Your holiness, mindful of Your grace and that You chose me for relationship and Your purpose. I pray to remain faithful to You and not to my flesh. I pray to live in the splendor of God's holiness, that through me Your glory can be displayed in the earth, through truthfulness, compassion, forgiveness and love in Jesus Name Amen.
Lord I pray that You may help me & fellow believers in you with IDENTITY CRISIS. We are made in your image, so help us to assist you with designing us to be who You called us to be, not who we want to be. In Jesus Name Amen! This is so good Pastor, great reflection exercise.
