S.E.E.D. For Today___Publicity
Scripture "But Paul said to the officers: They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out." Acts 16:37 NIV
Those who are in authority must be aware of being to hasty in their positions. The constant public crucifixion of human life is on the front page around the world. Wrongful death and wrongful punishment of innocent men, women and children. Paul in this situation understood the value of publicity. They were treated unlawfully by Roman Officers, being oppressed and wrongly imprisoned in a country of which they were citizens. Paul knew that the wrong done to them could not be changed but it could be acknowledged. In order to exhibit the wrongs done to himself and Silas, he insisted that those who had imprisoned him be the ones publicly release him proving their unlawful and unjust treatment towards them. Extra! Extra! Now that protest are occurring in our country over the unjust killings of black men and the men in blue comes a huge opportunity for those of us in Christ to now make the news known to all. What news is that? The Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In standing up for justice in America this is our chance to make known the justification the world received through the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is the purpose of why Paul and Silas were treated the way they were, they represented a message so powerful and life changing that the systems of that day were determined to put it to an end. The enemy can't get rid of us quietly we must continue to make this public announcement, that "God loved all of humanity so much that He gave His one and only, beloved Son to give His life in exchange to free us from the injustices of sin. Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
Example Publicity in the greek is parresia which is freedom of speech, confidence, boldness, making a proverb or a statement quoted with a resolve, leaving a witness that something deserves to be remembered or taken seriously, not concealing.
Exercise Read Acts 16:1-37 Journal and Talk to God.
Devotion Lord I thank You for helping me understand the value of publicity. Through social media, I am the media for the good of mankind. I pray that I use my means of media to bring glory to God. We make public many things that glorify us, but in order to arrest the powers that try to afflict us, change must start in us. Today I begin a bold campaign of reaching out in love using the avenue of publicity to share You with this broken world, the message of forgiveness and reconciliation, for the systems of this world can't keep me quiet about the freedom I so confidently received in Jesus Name Amen.
Amen
