Functional gods

S.E.E.D. For Today_Functional gods

Scripture "You must not have any other gods except Me" Exodus 20:3 NCV

The Jews lived in a world of blind and superstitious nations that worshiped many gods. The phrase except or (before) "Me" can mean in opposition to "Me". For the Jews to worship another god would be to declare war on Jehovah God and incur His wrath. An idol is a substitute for God and therefore not a god, for there is only one true and living God. Present day religious language goes like this, (you worship your god and I'll worship mine, because both is right) this is unbiblical and illogical, for how can there be more than one god? If God is God, He is infinite, eternal and sovereign and will not share His throne with any other. "I Am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols." Isaiah 42:8 God is a jealous God not in the sense that He's envious of other gods, for He knows that all other gods are that which we devote our energy and time to, that what we allow to take the place of God.

Example Functional gods the things for which we make sacrifices because we love it and serve it. The gods that entice people such as personal career, relationships, money academic achievement, sex, material possessions, recognition and fame, success...etc. When we live for anything besides Jesus that is  a functional god.

Exercise God is so serious about receiving exclusive worship and love. Read Exodus 20:1-6 What it is in your life that has more of your time and energy, your devotion, commitment more than God. What functional gods do we serve fervently more than we serve God. Examine yourself today. "There is no God apart from Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but Me." Isaiah 45:21

Devotion Lord I pray that my worship and loyalty is exclusive. Forgive me for anything and anyone that I allowed to take Your place. Help me for often times we become little gods ourselves, prideful, and wanting full control. I pray against all the other gods that are clamoring for my attention. Help me remain obedient to Your word. I know as a child of God I will always have to make choices,(Choose this day which god you will serve functional or the Infinite, Eternal and Sovereign God) I choose You in Jesus Name Amen.

Bursting Out Of It!

S.E.E.D. For Today:  Scripture: "Is this not the the fast which I have chosen: Loosen the bonds of wickedness." ( Isaiah 58:6 ) Explanation: There should be the right motive when we fast. The people of God in Isaiah observed but there was no change in them. When fasting we do not want to look at it as a religious ritual, but a means to transformation. The fruit of repentance ought to be evident in relationship with one another and our neighbor. If we fast and persist in arrogance, stubbornness, fighting and strife then we are only doing this out of routine. Exercise: Prayer is important to experience the grace and power of God when fasting. Without the consistency of prayer we will not see breakthrough. God is challenging us to do the fast He has chosen, the first means of business is releasing or loosing the bonds of wickedness. Whatever besets itself and entangles you again under the same slave system of missing the mark with God has to let you go. I challenge you ...

UN-DO!

S.E.E.D. For Today: Scripture: "Undo The Heavy Burdens" ( Isaiah 58:6 ) Example: There was a great deal of injustice in the land and with the rich exploiting the poor and the rulers using their authority only to make themselves richer. It was a conflict between truth and lies, just like in our land today. The people of God were no different in operating under the same system as this. But God called them out and wanted them to understand that their fasting was in vain if they did not undo the heavy burden they placed on others while still outwardly devoting themselves to religion or as they thought to God. Exercise: Let's invite the Holy Spirit to solve problems and aid us in lifting loads and overcome barriers that keep us and our loved ones from walking joyfully in the Lord. In self-denying love and care for others, let's undo any heavy burden or untie any yoke that we may have placed upon friends, family, associates or even employees. Devotion: Lord toda...

What to Wear, What Not to Wear!

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:2,5-8,13 TLC has a show entitled What Not to Wear. In this reality tv series family and friends recommend people for total transformation. The concept of the program is to take an individual who has not been able to give up garments that are old and out dated, clothing that leaves them lookin...
