“Can’t you see that the food you put into your body cannot defile you? Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.” “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishnes. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” Mark 7:18-23
There are many foods that we consume on a daily basis that really destroy our bodies. Many of us eat food that cause physical sicknesses and disease that can result in a poor quality of life or even physical death. Many foods that we consume and the amounts of them is what destroys the temple. But what about the junk that is already in us? As well as trying to discipline ourselves on what goes in, we ought to discipline ourselves to control the behaviors that come out. For it is not what goes in the mouth that defiles us, but it is what comes out of a person that ruins them.
As hard as it is for people to disengage themselves with food that is no good for them, it is twice as hard to disengage from the lustful passions that so easily come and control how we act and what we do. Some habits have been a part of us for so long, that it is hard to give them up. We are social creatures. We are concerned with acceptance and affirmation. We need it from God and from our fellow humans. So even when we know it's wrong and don't want to do it, we still do it any way because we want to fit in with the crowd, because we are definitely creatures that love to be affirmed by others, rather than by God.
There are many evil dispositions and evil thoughts that many of us wrestle with. We try to control the things that come out of our mouths and our actions. But out of some of our evil thoughts is the spring from which all the other bad attitudes and activities arise, and only when you take action concerning the truth about your inner self can you come to the light of who you really are.
Many of us have a misconception of what it means to do right. It is not what we act upon in outwards actions that prove that our hearts are right with God. Many people think because they usher, or never miss church, work feeding the homeless that they are good people. Many of us don't understand that these are just people doing good deeds, but there behavior outside of that, when your not around them or outside of church is totally different. That is why God looks at the heart. Because he knows our next move and our next evil intention, although others see our good works.
So let's start dealing with the junk that is already in us. For it is not so much as to what goes in, but as important as to what goes out. Food goes in the stomach and then comes out and goes into a sewer, but for the sin that lives in us, if we are not careful the junk the comes out of us will defile the man and his relationship with Christ. So many of us worry about what we eat all the time and then some of us don't. But more importantly we need to worry about the stuff that's coming out, that feeds our passions, our emotions and our lust. So the next time you do a self evaluation and look at the things that you need to change like your diet or having a new look, like women getting a new hair style to show change or men shaving your head bald to look like you have matured, but that is only dealing with the outer man, what is more important is how do you look to God, how is your spiritual appearance as God see's you. Start on a new workout people of God, start dealing with the junk that's already in your inward man, that's the real junk in the trunk!

Alright, I feel the motivation to begin a new soul workout. Great Post and so on time. God desires us to be whole, not just physically, but spiritually. When we start to see the real us, day by day, God will allow you to see yourself as he see's you. Be disciplined and allow God the opportunity to clean your heart.
ReplyDeleteThe more and more I allow the old things to fall off seems like the more stuff I find. You never realize all the sinful things that you have allowed to become apart of you. We often start physical workouts to trim our outer man without even considering all the extra weight our inner man has gained. The same way that exercise is good for your natural heart exercising the word of God is good for your spiritual heart as well.
ReplyDeleteWow what a awesome word! As hard as it was to face and accept that hidden junk inside of me. I am eternally grateful that the Lord favors me enough to reveal those secret place that still need much work.
