Deal or No Deal!

"Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?" Matthew 16:24-26 Message Bible

Life selfishly lived ends in death, but life given away for Christ’s sake results in eternal life. Believers are responsible stewards of the gift of physical life and spiritual life!
This mad quest for what we see as success or means to having happiness absorbs so much of our time and energy to the place that we miss the central point of Life. What good would it do to make all that money, then die, leave it all behind, and spend eternity empty-handed? We are here for bigger business than to make money. We are called to represent the interests of the King. If we miss that, we miss everything.

When we give our lives to Christ and become His disciples we have to let Him be the lead. We give up the driver's seat and become a passenger in this walk on the believer's side of life. Many of us do not want to suffer or give up the things we have worked hard for and earned in this life. Careers and aspirations of the good life are our visions and dreams. I'm reminded of the movie The Devil's Advocate in which Keanu Reeves who plays Kevin Lomax sells his soul to the devil for a career deal of a lifetime. His mother who is a Christian warns him about the sinful life he is about to step into trying to reach his goals. Kevin in the process loses his wife, his self and finds out that he had not invited in the determination of success, but that he had opened the door for Satan to gain control over his soul. Kevin blames Satan for everything and Satan replies to him I didn't do all this you did, I just set the stage.

See Satan in all honesty sets the stage, but it is up to us to decide whether or not we take the deal. Kevin had the opportunity to leave at anytime, but he could not resist the pleasure of winning and gaining all that he could desire. At any cost he wanted it all! Be as wise as the serpent. Self sacrifice is the God way to finding yourself, what kind of deal would it be if you did end up with everything you want and lose yourself, I think that is the worst deal ever. Satan has made many a offer that still sits on the table, to trade eternal possesions for what is temporary. He's nudging many of us right now, and saying what's the verdict deal or no deal. I suggest you walk away with what you possess now and that's Christ, tell Satan to go to Hell. Give him the real business, stand and resist him, let him know, I command that you flee in the Name of Jesus, for there is definitely, no deal!

  1. Great post pastor. It is a challenge to have lead your entire life and then see that you were not really driving at all. We live and learn. For many of us, we love for God to drive, but we are scared of the road ahead cause we are not controlling the steering. But like you said, "No deal" and just let Go and allow God to take over.

Bursting Out Of It!

S.E.E.D. For Today:  Scripture: "Is this not the the fast which I have chosen: Loosen the bonds of wickedness." ( Isaiah 58:6 ) Explanation: There should be the right motive when we fast. The people of God in Isaiah observed but there was no change in them. When fasting we do not want to look at it as a religious ritual, but a means to transformation. The fruit of repentance ought to be evident in relationship with one another and our neighbor. If we fast and persist in arrogance, stubbornness, fighting and strife then we are only doing this out of routine. Exercise: Prayer is important to experience the grace and power of God when fasting. Without the consistency of prayer we will not see breakthrough. God is challenging us to do the fast He has chosen, the first means of business is releasing or loosing the bonds of wickedness. Whatever besets itself and entangles you again under the same slave system of missing the mark with God has to let you go. I challenge you ...

THE SAFE PLACE

S.E.E.D. For Today___ Safety Scripture "God is our safe place and our strength. He is always our help when we are in trouble." Psalms 46:1 New Life Version In light of all that is going on in our world God is the most dependable person we know. Murder, and violence plague our city's and nothing seems to be safe anymore. When everything seems to be falling apart God is our safety, our refuge from the storms of life. He doesn't protect us in order to pamper us, He shelter's us so He can strengthen us to go back to life with it's duties and dangers. Trouble describes people who are in tight places in a corner and unable to get out, but we are not to be afraid. The earth may change and things will be in utter chaos, but in the Lord we have safety. Though everything around us and in us seems to be restless, God is in control. God is our safe place, in His will, in His hands He got the whole world, He formed it, shaped it, created it, and man co...

"Your Time Is Coming!"

"My Destiny and it's timing is in the hand of God." Psalms 16:5 Your way of life, your fortune, your fate, your portion comes from God. Knowing God is to know that He operates in rhythm, seasons, or times. Ecclesiastes 3 breaks down very intricately the seasons, or timing of a man's life or destiny. It tells us in vs.1 that, "Everything on earth has its own time and its own season" ( CEV ) or " Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses." ( GNT ) Being in sync rhythmically with God is so vital to the believer, operating in boundaries of our destiny or fortune, is the ability to flow in purpose. God has a purpose for each of us, you will find it to be your greatest joy as you discover the privilege of understanding the intention of God for your life. There are times as believers we find it difficult to accept what God has given us. There will be times when your ideas of what you want may get in the way of you and God...
